Print Quality: Posters vs. Original Photographs
Original Photographs have an heirloom archival quality, printed on a gloss finish, fiber-based fine art photography paper. Each is individually hand signed by Cory Silken. They display a wider color gamut, deeper blacks, and sharper reproduction than our poster editions. Posters are printed on a matte poster paper, and include the digital Cory Silken logo printing.
Photo Paper, Metal, Plexiglas, or Canvas
Original Photographs printed on photo paper are perfect for framing behind glass, either traditionally matted or with a contemporary style float finish. White, brown, and gray frames are very popular with white matting, although we have a broad variety of styles and colors available. We use UV resilient Conservation Glass or Plexiglas (for large pieces and/or shipping). Museum Glass, which dramatically reduces reflection and better shows the vibrancy of the photograph, is an optional upgrade.
Metal prints have a vibrant contemporary look, where image is finished with no glass in front of it. An inset frame is attached to the back for hanging, giving the piece a floating look, 1" off the wall. Metal prints are alternately available with a thin float frame, giving them a more finished look while still filling the space with a large image/small frame, and presenting the photograph without glass. Metal prints are light weight, and a great option for humid environments as they are impervious to water. They are also available with gloss, semi-gloss, and matte finishes. The gloss is a very sharp and vibrant look. The semi-gloss is our favorite as it retains that vibrancy while significantly reducing the amount of reflection on the surface. If you have a space with a lot of light, the matte finish dramatically cuts the reflection.
Photographs face mounted with Plexiglas (a.k.a. Acrylic) provide a similar look to the gloss metal. The photograph is bonded with plexiglas on the front, a dibond stiffener (plastic & metal) on the back, and an inset frame behind that, for hanging with a floating appearance.
Photographs printed on canvas are stretched over a 1" or 2" deep wooden frame backing (depending on the size), similar to a painting. They are available with either the image area visibly wrapping around on the sides of the piece, called a Gallery Wrap, or traditionally framed. The textured surface of the canvas gives the photograph somewhat of a softer, painterly look. Canvases receive a moisture and UV resistant coating.
Processing Time
When Cory is in town and not away on location, photographs and posters are usually produced in just a few days. Framing generally takes 1-2 weeks, depending on the frame you select. Allow 3-4 weeks for metal, plexiglas, and canvas photos.
International Orders
We ship throughout the world. There is no duty on artwork in many countries, although there may be a duty on framing or other finishing materials. Due to the speed, cost, and risk, we generally recommend shipping unframed photos, rolled in a tube, for international orders. Air mail from the Postal Service generally takes 2-3 weeks, available for items weighing under 4 pounds (starting around US $25). Priority Mail takes 1-2 weeks (starting around $65), and international courier services such as DHL/FedEx/UPS provide service in a few days (starting around $125).
